چکیده

We have measured the clustering properties of low-redshift (z < 0.3) submm galaxies detected at 250 μm in the Herschel-ATLAS science demonstration phase field. We selected a sample Herschel is an ESA space observatory with science instruments provided by European-led Principal Investigator consortia and with important participation from NASA. †E-mail: [email protected] C © 2012 The Authors Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society C © 2012 RAS 3456 E. van Kampen et al. for which we have high-quality spectroscopic redshifts, obtained from reliably matching the 250-μm sources to a complete (for r < 19.4) sample of galaxies from the GAMA data base. Both the angular and spatial clustering strength are measured for all z < 0.3 sources as well as for five redshift slices with thickness z = 0.05 in the range 0.05 < z < 0.3. Our measured spatial clustering length r0 is comparable to that of optically selected, moderately star-forming (blue) galaxies: we find values around 5 Mpc. One of the redshift bins contains an interesting structure, at z = 0.164.

Colour matters: the effects of lensing on the positional offsets between optical and submillimetre galaxies in Herschel ⋆-ATLAS

We report an unexpected variation in the positional offset distributions between Herschel -ATLAS sub-millimetre (submm) sources and their optical associations, depending on both 250-μm signal-to-noise ratio and 250/350-μm colour. We show that redder and brighter submm sources have optical associations with a broader distribution of positional offsets than would be expected if these offsets were...

Herschel – ATLAS : counterparts from the UV – NIR in the science demonstration phase catalogue ⋆

We present a technique to identify optical counterparts of 250μm-selected sources from the Herschel-ATLAS survey. Of the 6621 250μm > 32mJy sources in our science demonstration catalogue we find that ∼ 60 percent have counterparts brighter than r = 22.4mag in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. Applying a likelihood ratio technique we are able to identify 2423 of the counterparts with a reliability R...

Herschel-ATLAS/GAMA: a difference between star-formation rates in strong-line and weak-line radio galaxies

We have constructed a sample of radio-loud objects with optical spectroscopy from the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA) project over the Herschel-ATLAS Phase 1 fields. Classifying the radio sources in terms of their optical spectra, we find that strong-emission-line sources (‘high-excitation radio galaxies’) have, on average, a factor ∼ 4 higher 250-μm Herschel luminosity than weak-line (‘low-exc...

Herschel-ATLAS: the angular correlation function of submillimetre galaxies at high and low redshift

We present measurements of the angular correlation function of galaxies selected from the first field of the H-ATLAS survey. Careful removal of the background from galactic cirrus is essential, and currently dominates the uncertainty in our measurements. For our 250 μm-selected sample we detect no significant clustering, consistent with the expectation that the 250 μm-selected sources are mostl...

The Nature of Grb-selected Submillimeter Galaxies: Hot and Young

We present detailed fits of the spectral energy distributions (SEDs) of four submillimeter (submm) galaxies selected by the presence of a gamma-ray burst (GRB) event (GRBs 980703, 000210, 000418 and 010222). These faint ∼ 3 mJy submm emitters at redshift ∼ 1 are characterized by an unusual combination of longand short-wavelength properties, namely enhanced submm and/or radio emission combined w...
